Emmajude Designs is a collaboration of two seamstresses turned doll artists, Gloria Koja and Christine Koja, a mother and daughter design team. With my mother as my first sewing instructor, I began to sew clothing for myself at the age of 14, and much later, moved on to sewing for dolls, primarily porcelain reproduction dolls. Mother and dad had a porcelain reproduction doll business, Gloria Frances Dolls, for several years back in the 80ís, so there is a history of doll making in our family.

My mother and I had created costumed Barbie and Ken dolls, for our own personal collection, several years before we began selling our dolls on eBay. The ideas for present day Emmajude dolls come from many sources; magazines, historical costume books, and films.  At times, just viewing and handling a particular piece of material will generate an idea for a costume.

In December 2002, I began to sell my personal collection of vintage Barbie dolls on eBay. Checking out the various dolls, I discovered the OOAK (one of a kind) doll page. My interest was piqued by all the beautiful dolls offered. I shared my discovery with my mother, Gloria, who promptly gave me a costumed doll from her own collection to sell. Well, the doll sold, much to our surprise and pleasure, and Emmajude Designs was off and running. Beginning in December 2002, Emmajude Designs has been creating and selling OOAK dolls on the internet auction site eBay. We were listed among the featured doll artists, in the June 2004 Barbie Bazaar Barbieís 45th Anniversary Issue. A range of doll artists were featured in the price guide, with examples of the variety of dolls available through eBay, as well as the individual artist websites.

Some personal history, I left a fifteen year career in the accounting field to devote myself to painting and creating beautiful costumed dolls.  I started college with a major in art; classes in drawing, color and design, ceramics and painting consumed my evenings. After a several years, I decided to switch to Business, with a major in Accounting, because it seemed infinitely more practical. After all, could I really make a living selling my artistic wares?  Well, many years have passed and I have finally come full circle. I have returned to my artistic roots, I am now able to let my passion for creating have full reign. I have never worked so hard, nor enjoyed myself so much, as when I am absorbed in creating a new doll. My mother, Gloria, feels the same. Mother had never envisioned herself creating works of art at the ripe ìoldî age of seventy-five! We are passionate about creating the unusual and unique, and I believe it shows in the absolute quality of the repaints and costumed dolls. You may be rest assured your Emmajude doll was created with the utmost care and love.
